Industrial Water Pumps Safety Handbook
Any industrial water pump is a pressure vessel with rotating parts that can be hazardous. Hazardous fluids may be
contained by the pump including high temperature, flammable, acidic, caustic, explosive, and other risks. Hence,
operators and
maintenance personnel must realize this and follow strictly safety measures outlined by respective
industrial water pumps manufacturers.
Let go thorough some of the critical safety measures in this handbook:-
-
Never apply heat to disassemble pumps, this may cause an explosion due to trapped fluid, resulting in severe
physical injury and property damage.
-
As general rule of thumb, never operate pump without coupling guard correctly installed.
-
Most of the industrial water pumps spelled out their specification clearly. Hence, it is very important to read
their instruction carefully and never operate the pumps below recommended minimal flow when dry, or without
prime. Even for a few seconds, can cause seal damage, and it also can cause physical injury if mechanical seal
fails too.
-
For safety measure, always lock out power before performing any pump maintenance.
-
Any installation and usage of pumps must always according to shaft alignment procedures to prevent catastrophic
failure of drive components or unintended contact of rotating parts.
-
Before you start to operate any of industrial water pumps, please make sure discharge and suction valves are
properly fixed and open. Otherwise, this may create an explosive hazard due to vaporization of pump age and can
quickly lead to pump failure and physical injury.
- Never operate a pump without coupling guard properly installed, this may cause any
injury if pump is run without coupling guard.
Lastly, always use genuine parts from the manufacturers, that will provide safest and most reliable operation of
your water pumps. Some of the manufacturers are certified with ISO standard and high quality control procedures to
ensure the parts are manufactured to the highest quality and safety levels.
